Expanded visa options for partners of students studying bachelors degrees leading to green list occupationsThere is some great news for those considering studying in New Zealand with a partner, The New Zealand government has recently expanded eligibility for work visas for partners of students studying qualifications that lead to Green List occupations.

What does this mean?

If a student is enrolled in a specific level 7 or 8 bachelor’s degree (or honours) program that directly qualifies them for professional registration in a Green List occupation (like nursing, medicine, or teaching), their partner can now apply for a Partner of Student Work Visa with open work rights. This allows the partner to work in any job in New Zealand.

The partners of students studying level 9 or 10 degrees (masters and PhDs) will continue to have the option to also apply for a Partner of a Student Work Visa. This update provides clarity for level 7 or 8 qualifications.

Benefits extend to dependents

The dependent school-aged dependent children of eligible partners will be treated as domestic students. This means they can apply for a Dependent Child Student Visa without having to pay tuition fees to go to school.

Which qualifications have been added?

INZ have updated the list of qualifications that will allow the partner of a student to obtain a Partner Work Visa, which provides the clarity for Level 7 and 8 qualifications that was needed.
