Digital nomads welcome in New ZealandNew Zealand is opening its doors to digital nomads! Recent updates to visitor visa conditions now allow tourists to work remotely for overseas employers while experiencing everything New Zealand has to offer.

From today, new visa conditions will allow visitors to stay connected to their overseas jobs or clients without breaching visa conditions. The change applies to applications received from 27th January 2025 for all visitors, and includes tourists, people visiting family and friends and partners on longer-term visitor visas. The new conditions will be granted whether you apply for a visitor visa or an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority.

While the new rules allow remote work for overseas employers, certain restrictions remain. Visitors must not:
• Work for a New Zealand employer.
• Provide goods or services to local businesses or individuals.
• Undertake work requiring their physical presence at a workplace in New Zealand.

If you’re planning to work remotely from New Zealand for more than 92 days within a year, it’s essential to be aware of any potential tax obligations.

It’s also important to select the correct visa for your primary purpose of travel. For example, those attending specific events or engaging in business activities should apply for the appropriate visa, such as a Specific Purpose Work Visa or Business Visitor Visa.
