For applicants under the Skilled Migrant Category, including both the Green List Straight to Residence and Work to Residence visas, the updated median wage will influence minimum income thresholds and the calculation of skilled work experience.
While the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) is tied to market rates rather than the median wage, this update is still significant for certain AEWV applicants. In particular, it may affect those who:

Need to meet Green List salary thresholds, which are linked to median wage multiples;

Earn 1.5 times the median wage (NZ$50.34/hour) and wish to qualify for the maximum 5-year stay on an AEWV;

Earn twice the median wage (NZ$67.12/hour) and may be eligible for exemptions from labour market testing or minimum skill requirements.
