INZ are changing from using ANZSCO to NOL for the classification of occupations for visa applicationsA significant update has been announced for the New Zealand labour-migration system: the National Occupation List (NOL) will gradually replace the Australia and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). This transition means a broader range of occupations will be recognised under the new framework, with more visa categories adopting the NOL.

What this means for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV)

From 3 November 2025, selected occupations listed on the NOL will be eligible under the AEWV scheme. Jobs are sorted into groups by responsibility and skill level, where Skill 1 denotes the highest level of skill and Skill 5 the lower.

If your role appears in the NOL, you must use the NOL occupation code for any AEWV application or job check from that date. This applies to:

Important note:
If your occupation is not listed in the NOL, or you’re applying under a different visa category (not the AEWV), you should continue to use the ANZSCO classification until the transition is finalised.
