Primary school teachers added to tier 1 of the New Zealand green list Good news for Primary School Teachers wanting to move to New Zealand. From 26 March 2025, this role will be added to Tier 1 of the Green List in New Zealand, which means that Primary School Teachers will be able to apply for a Straight to Residence visa.

To meet the requirements, you’ll need a job offer that pays at least NZD$31.61 per hour, to be a registered teacher in New Zealand with a practising certificate, and to work as a primary, intermediate or Māori-medium primary teacher.

And you are able to apply from overseas.

Primary school teachers who are already in New Zealand and on the Work to Residence pathway, will also be able to apply for a Straight to Residence visa now.

Secondary school teachers are already on Tier 1 of the Green List, so these changes reflect the demand for teachers in New Zealand throughout the education system.

Fill out our Eligibility Assessment to see if this could be an option for you.

Or take a look at INZ’s Green List checker to see if your role is on the list.
